With profound sadness, we remember and honor the lives of David Thalman, 20, of Dundee, Illinois, and Franceska Warick, 20, of South Elgin, Illinois, whose lives were lost in a tragic kayaking incident near Washington Island, Wisconsin.
According to authorities, David and Franceska were reported missing on Saturday evening after they went kayaking near Washington Island. A massive search effort was launched involving multiple agencies, including local emergency responders, water rescue teams, drone operators, the U.S. Coast Guard, and ground search crews.
After an extensive search, recovery teams located the body of David Thalman on Monday morning. Shortly afterward, the body of Franceska Warick was also recovered from the water.
Their sudden passing has brought unimaginable grief to their families, friends, and everyone who knew and loved them. Two young lives full of hopes, dreams, and cherished moments have left behind memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those closest to them.
David and Franceska will be remembered not only for the lives they lived but also for the connections they made and the impact they had on the people around them.
The Door County Sheriff’s Office shared its deepest condolences with both families and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss.
