TikTok creator Sydney Towle has died at the age of 26 following a battle with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of bile duct cancer that she openly documented throughout her illness.
The news of her passing was shared on her official social media accounts on Thursday, Aug. 6, one day after her reported death.
“We will always love you so much Sydney,” the post’s caption read. “I am so proud of how hard you fought. I love you.”
The announcement stated that Towle died on Wednesday, Aug. 5, and featured a photo of her standing on a mountain peak alongside a tribute that read: “Rest in Peace Sydney Elizabeth Towle. An endless ray of sunshine. A daughter, a sister and friend to so many.”
Her older brother, Austin Towle, also shared the tribute on his TikTok account, describing Sydney as the “best sister ever.”
Just a day before her death, on Aug. 4, Austin informed followers that Sydney had been moved to hospice care. The post included a photo of family and friends gathered around her hospital bed with the message: “Sydney has been moved to hospice and is surrounded by her friends and family. Thank you all for your love and support.”
Towle was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma at the age of 23. Over the following three years, she built a community of more than one million followers on TikTok by sharing her experience living with the rare cancer. Her content documented the realities of her diagnosis, including multiple surgeries, various chemotherapy treatments, and participation in clinical trials, while offering encouragement and raising awareness about the disease.
Her candid updates and resilient outlook earned her widespread support, with many followers crediting her for bringing attention to a rare form of cancer and inspiring others facing serious illnesses.
