MADISON, N.J. — A multi-day search for a missing Parsippany-Troy Hills father and former educator ended in tragedy Tuesday evening after authorities discovered the body of 49-year-old Cavan Londergan at Summerhill Park in Madison, Morris County.
According to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Londergan was reported missing to the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department on Saturday, Aug. 2. Investigators later determined that he had last been seen in Madison on Monday, Aug. 3, prompting an expanded search effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
The New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit joined the investigation on Tuesday, helping authorities develop a lead that directed search teams to Summerhill Park. A coordinated search involving the Madison Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, and the Morris County Office of Emergency Management ultimately led to the discovery of Londergan’s body later that evening.
Detectives from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and investigators from the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Officials said Londergan’s death is not considered suspicious at this time. An autopsy is pending, and authorities have indicated that the investigation remains active as they continue to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
Londergan was a familiar figure in the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District, where he dedicated more than a decade to serving students and families. He began his career as a classroom teacher before transitioning into school counseling, spending approximately 11 years as a guidance counselor at Lake Parsippany Elementary School. He later joined the staff at Parsippany High School, where he continued supporting students in both their academic and personal development.
Throughout his career, Londergan earned recognition for his commitment to education and the school community. In 2015, he was inducted into the Parsippany High School Hall of Fame in recognition of his professional achievements and contributions to the district.
Beyond his work in education, Londergan was actively involved in community service. He and his wife, Angie, both graduates of Parsippany High School’s Class of 1995, established an autism scholarship benefiting local students. The scholarship was funded through an annual flag football tournament, reflecting the couple’s commitment to giving back to the community that had shaped their lives.
In February 2024, the Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education approved a settlement involving Londergan, after which he departed from the school district.
News of his death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from former colleagues, students, and community members who remember him for his years of service and dedication to education.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding Londergan’s death and have asked that anyone with relevant information contact investigators as the case remains under review.
