SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The John Adams High School community is grieving the devastating loss of Hannah Zweig, a beloved Life Skills teacher, and her younger brother, Yosef, who were both killed in a tragic motor vehicle accident in Michigan.
The heartbreaking news has left students, colleagues, friends, and family mourning the loss of two lives remembered for their compassion, kindness, and unwavering love for others.
In a statement shared with the school community, John Adams High School announced Hannah’s passing and expressed its profound sorrow.
“We are mourning the loss of John Adams High School Life Skills Teacher, Hannah Zweig. Hannah was involved in a tragic accident and passed away. The accident claimed not only Hannah’s life, but also her younger brother’s. We will miss Hannah’s bubbly personality and seeing her smile in the halls of John Adams High School.”
School officials also shared a letter from Principal Seitz with students, staff, and families as the community began processing the tragic loss.
Hannah was widely admired for her dedication to students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As a Life Skills teacher at John Adams High School, she quickly earned a reputation for creating a welcoming and supportive classroom where every student felt valued, encouraged, and capable of success.
Her exceptional commitment to education was recognised when South Bend Schools named her Rookie Teacher of the Year, an honor reflecting the remarkable impact she made early in her teaching career.
Recently, Hannah earned her Master’s degree in Special Education and Teaching from Grand Canyon University, continuing her lifelong commitment to serving students with diverse learning needs. She had also studied at Excelsior University, building the academic foundation that would shape her meaningful career in education.
Local journalist Joshua Short paid tribute to Hannah, recalling both her professional excellence and the deep compassion she demonstrated every day.
