A tragic multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 75 in Warren County claimed the life of one woman and left several others seriously injured during the Tuesday morning commute, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Authorities have identified the victim as Karen White, who died following the devastating five-vehicle crash that occurred shortly after 6:00 a.m. on the southbound lanes of I-75 between the Ohio 73 interchange in Warren County and the Austin Boulevard exit in Montgomery County.
According to investigators with the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Lebanon Post, all five vehicles involved were traveling southbound in the left-center lane when traffic unexpectedly came to a stop. Troopers said an SUV had stopped in the lane, with two additional vehicles halted behind it, including a Honda Civic driven by Karen White.
As traffic remained stopped, another SUV approached from behind and collided with the rear of White’s Honda Civic. The force of the impact caused her vehicle to veer off the right side of the interstate, where it struck another vehicle before spinning back into the roadway.
Moments later, a large van crashed into White’s Honda, driving it into the concrete median barrier. After striking the Honda, the van continued forward and collided with two additional vehicles, turning the incident into a major chain-reaction crash involving five vehicles.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, Karen White succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passing has left family members, friends, and the community mourning a life tragically cut short in an instant.
Three other individuals involved in the crash sustained serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities have not released their identities or provided updates on their conditions.
